Hi Kara, I have just ordered your book after hearing you on Radio 4 reading an extract a while back. It has been on my to-do list for a while. I was born in Yeovil and live and work there as a teaching assistant. Rural poverty is so often overlooked and I have seen the shocking impact of it on the children I work with. When I heard you read your extract, I thought this would be an important book and a great book for kids to study in school. Looking forward to reading the whole thing and congratulations on getting your writing career off to such a brilliant start.

I really hope you’ll understand what I was trying to do with King of Rabbits (it sounds like you will), and also that it does the themes I was exploring justice for you. I’m a local Somerset bumpkin too! It’s a place I absolutely love. I really hope you’ll get the “feel” of it in the book.
It’s funny you say that about kids studying it – someone else said that to me too!

Hi Karla, I finished reading your novel a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. Incidentally, the secondary school I work at in Yeovil is joining forces with Midsomer Norton school to form a Multi Academy Trust with the intention of raising standards. When I get back in September I think I will take King of Rabbits with me and show it to the Head of English.

Ahhhh… Now that’s an interesting idea, the thought of you showing my book to the Head of English (at Norton Hill? That’s my old school, which was pretty much what Kai’s senior school was based on). It feels almost like a certain aspect would have come full circle…
I had an English teacher there called Mr Raeburn who was the person who made me love that lesson. Soon as he left, my English grades went downhill. I digress… Anyway, thanks so much for reading KoR.
