Outside was cold. I kept standing on the front doorstep yearning to be sat on the garden chair under the warm sun with a cup of tea, but the wind stayed frisky.
A while back we noticed something else was growing in the lavendar pot. We refrained from pulling it out just in case it was a flower. I loved the idea that a flower seed might have flown in a bird’s beak and dropped into the pot. How else would it have got there?
Yesterday, the first petals unfurled. Today; two orange stars.
We’re in a strange time where courageous people are diving into new endeavours and learning new things. They’re planting seeds unsure of what could sprout, bud, grow, or die, just like the bird who gave us two gorgeous flowers. I loved it even before the orange petals because it was my brave green thing making a spot for itself amongst the lavendar.
